DREAM READING LIST

Reading inspires all kinds of new ideas and goals

Whether it's a list for summer reading or for a new school year, having a goal of reading certain books is a way to develop literacy skills and get ideas about other people's lives, places in the world, things to do and learn. Reading inspires personal development and goal-setting, and is a goal in itself.

You can get in the mood to dream by reading Susan V. Bosak's bestseller Dream. Then start exploring other books to read.

Reading List Sheet

Use the categories in the Reading List sheet as you visit the library or use the Internet. Get suggestions of books from friends, parents, teachers, and your librarian. Include popular books, but also dig for books that you might not otherwise find.

Make a list of books you'd like to read in each category. There should be at least one book in each category, but you can include more than one.

Read about an area or topic you really enjoy or are interested in; biographies about the lives of famous people and how they achieved what they achieved; descriptions of countries or landmarks you'd like to visit in the world and adventures you'd like to try; find out how things work and about different careers; learn the rules or history of a sport; find out how you can help the planet or about exotic animals; learn about other cultures/ countries; get inspired by stories about people or projects that have made the world a better place; read something light just because it's fun or funny; and, finally, challenge yourself by reading something difficult or that you don't think you'd ever be interested in – because you just might surprise yourself!

Once you've finished making your list, set a date for achieving your reading goal – and get reading!
