DREAM TIME

Give yourself permission every week to dream

In our busy, overscheduled lives, it's important to make time to dream. In schools and families, a weekly Dream Time can involve children and adults.

Make Dream Time special by turning down the lights, and maybe even having a special sparkling or colored light you turn on. You can also have a special star (e.g. a star paperweight, Christmas decoration, a 3-D star you've made) you use to symbolize the start of Dream Time and as a talking stick (i.e. the person who holds the star has the floor to speak).

The first week you do Dream Time, set the stage by reading and discussing Dream. What are the hopes and dreams you have for yourself, your family, our world?

Each week, everyone keeps their eyes open during the week for something to share during Dream Time. Maybe it's a goal you accomplished or a step you took that you're proud of. Choose a historical hero one week and find out all you can about him or her. Read an inspiring story – fiction or nonfiction – or an inspiring poem. Clip out cartoons and news items. Share a story about a big local or national sports victory, past or present. Watch an inspiring film.

You can also start a Dream Board. Anything you discuss during Dream Time that's particularly interesting or inspiring, you can post on the Dream Board. This reminds everyone about the things discussed during Dream Time and provides ongoing inspiration.

If questions come up during a Dream Time session, give everyone the "homework" of finding the answer and bringing it to Dream Time the following week.

Dream Time can end each week with everyone making an origami Dream Star with a wish or goal for the upcoming week.
